Our confined space rescue training course will teach your personnel how to rescue personnel from confined spaces in accordance with WHS Regulations and Australian Standard 2865-2009. This confined space rescue training course also includes a breathing apparatus refresher module so that learners understand how to rescue a person from a hazardous atmosphere within a confined space whilst remaining safe.

About this course

Why Choose This Course

This programme is NOT designed for the Fire Sector.

Our confined space rescue training course will teach your personnel how to rescue personnel from confined spaces in accordance with WHS Regulations and Australian Standard 2865-2009. This confined space rescue training course also includes a breathing apparatus refresher module so that learners understand how to rescue a person from a hazardous atmosphere within a confined space whilst remaining safe.

This course is designed to teach learners how to determine what hazards may exist within a confined space, how to put into place a confined space rescue plan and how to carry out a confined space rescue. As a rescue focused course, this is not designed for general “confined space work” workers.

Pre-Requisites:

Where this programme is delivered in a non Fire-Sector industry, FSA requires participants to meet the pre-entry requirements, as listed below under FSA Entry Requirements.

Where the units are required within the Fire Sector or being applied towards a fire qualification, evidence of the below units of competency must be provided as pre-requisite requirements. 

The fire sector is those sections of government departments, statutory authorities or organisations that have responsibility under jurisdictional arrangements for the delivery of firefighting and fire management services.

It is essential that the prerequisite units listed below are obtained prior to the issuance of this unit to individuals within the fire sector or the units contributing to the attainment of a fire qualification.

  • PUAFIR306 Identify, detect and monitor hazardous materials at an incident
  • PUASAR022 Participate in a rescue operation
  • HLTAID011 Provide first aid

FSA Entry Requirements:

  • USI
  • Fitness to participate declaration
  • Sufficient language, literacy & numeracy skills to complete the course
  • Safety footwear, long pants, long sleeves
  • HLTAID011 Provide first aid and / or HLTAID003 Provide first aid (must be current)
  • PUAFIR207 Operate breathing apparatus open circuit and/or MSMWHS216 Operate Breathing Apparatus (or equivalent as per training.gov.au)
  • Participants must be clean shaven, no facial hair that may affect facial seal as per Australian Standard 1715. Click here for further information

Where the participant fails to provide the entry requirements for this course, no Statement of Attainment will be issued, participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance only.

  • Identifying confined spaces & hazards;
  • Risk assessments & hierarchy of hazard controls
  • Australian standards & relevant legislation explained
  • Roles & responsibilities of management & employees
  • Rescue techniques and principles
  • Tripods, VED’s & rescue equipment
  • Practical rescue scenarios
  • Self rescue from confined spaces
  • Operation of breathing apparatus skills maintenance

Evidence of each participant holding the above competencies must be provided prior to entry into the course.

Please note that it would be beneficial for participants to have had some experience and/or training in confined space entry

Refund Policy

Public Courses

All cancellation and transfer requests must be received in writing.

Course Cancellation Policy
When cancelling an enrolment, the following charges will apply:

  • 2 business day cooling off period
  • 7 or more business days - no charge
  • 6 or less business days - 50 percent (50%) of course fee incurred
  • 3 business day’s notice or less from start time (weekends / public holidays not included) – no refund / full course charge

Course Transfer Policy
When transferring an enrolment from one course date to another, the following charges will apply:

  • Transferred 7 or more business days prior to course date – no charge
  • Transferred 6 or less business days prior to course date – 50 percent (50%) of course fee incurred
  • Transferred 3 or less business days from start time (weekends / public holidays not included) – no refund / full course charge
  • Name changes 5 business days or less prior to course date will incur a $50.00 +GST fee per name change
  • Non-attendance of any course will not entitle the client to any refund, set-off, waiver or reduction of the fee and the client remains required to pay all fees in respect of courses that it does not attend, unless otherwise agreed in writing with the company.
  • In the event any learner is turned away from training as a result of being adversely affected by drugs or alcohol in the trainer’s opinion, there shall be no refund

Once a training date has been confirmed by FSA, any changes made by the client to this booking, including cancellation or postponement will result in the following fees after the 2 business day cooling off period:

  • Cancelled / transferred 7 or more business days prior to course date - no charge
  • Cancelled / transferred 6 business days or less prior to course date - 50 percent (50%) of course fee
  • Cancelled / transferred 3 or less business days from start time - no refund / full course charge name changes 5 business days or less prior to the course date will incur a $50.00 + GST fee per name change

Distance Learning

All Cancellation Requests must be received in writing

When cancelling or withdrawing an enrolment, the following charges will apply:

  • 2 business day cooling off period upon receipt of payment
  • Cancelled / withdrawn between 3-13 business days, course fee refunded minus an admin fee of $250.00
  • Cancelled / withdrawn after 14 days from commencement – 100% of course fee forfeited.
