Breathing Apparatus Training Course Outline
Fire and Safety Australia’s Breathing Apparatus Training course will equip your personnel with the skills required to safely inspect, maintain and operate Self Contained Breathing Apparatus during normal work or during emergency situations.
Our breathing apparatus training course lasts for 1 day (for normal workers) and it lasts for 2 days (for emergency services personnel). We will teach your personnel how to safely operate Breathing Apparatus in accordance with OHS Regulations and Australian Standard 1715-2009 Breathing Apparatus. This breathing apparatus training module teaches learners understand how to rescue a person from a hazardous atmosphere whilst wearing breathing apparatus and how to inspect and test breathing apparatus.
In 2010 we trained well over 800 people in breathing apparatus training. We have several large national contracts with clients to complete breathing apparatus training for hundreds of learners each year. Details of some of our current clients appear to the right.
Our Breathing Apparatus Training Course is designed to teach learners how to determine what hazards may exist within various atmospheres, how to risk assess the best work method from the hierarchy of hazard controls, how to test and inspect the breathing apparatus and how to use the breathing apparatus in both normal and emergency situations.

During the breathing apparatus training courses we cover both the theory and practical sides to operating breathing apparatus. Breathing Apparatus training courses are only conducted by experienced emergency services and industry personnel who are fully competent in the usage of breathing apparatus equipment and in conducting firefighting operations, HAZMAT operations and rescues whilst wearing breathing apparatus.
Our trainers whom instruct on our breathing apparatus training courses have both the qualifications and the relevant industry emergency services experience to walk you through the requirements of our breathing apparatus training course.
Fire and Safety Australia regularly teaches on-site and public breathing apparatus training courses throughout Australia (we taught over 11,500 people in 2010!). Our breathing apparatus trainers travel across Australia (trainers based in every State and Territory) to conduct breathing apparatus training courses.
Our breathing apparatus training courses are nationally recognised training courses and are taught through the Manufacturing Training Package and the Resources and Infastructure Training Package. Learners whom are assessed competent will receive a statement of attainment in the relevant units of competency.

We currently teach some of Australia’s largest companies Breathing APparatus Training throughout Australia including organisation like Cement Australia, Alcoa, Snowy Hydro Power Stations, Newport Power Station, Virgin Tech, CSR, James Hardie and many more.
Our 1 day breathing apparatus training course encompasses around 40% Theory and 60% Practical. Practical breathing apparatus skills are an extremely important part of the course. Many participants comment that our course is better than other training companies because of our emphasis on practical breathing apparatus training scenarios and drills.
If no suitable practical areas exist on-sit, we have practical breathing apparatus training facilities in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. If you prefer on-site training we can bring one of our 4 confined space and breathing apparatus training trailers onto your site and train your personnel.
This confined space and breathing apparatus training trailer (pictured below) ensures that all course participants are able to undergo breathing apparatus and search and rescue training in a realistic and safe environment. Our trailer is over 4.0m long and 2.0m high and can be taken anywhere in Australia. In fact we have 4 trailers across VIC, NSW, SA & QLD that can be used for various training courses. This trailer is used to replicate realistic breathing apparatus search and rescue scenarios.

Prior to your breathing apparatus training course occurring, we will request a copy of your breathing apparatus training policies, breathing apparatus procedures and breathing apparatus inspection checklists. By having a copy of your breathing apparatus policies and procedures before we conduct the confined space training, our trainers are able to customize and tailor the breathing apparatus training course directly to your requirements.
We can provide on-site breathing apparatus training courses at your workplace (normally for 4+ personnel) and we also provide regular breathing apparatus training (public/open) courses in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth (Refer to our course finder to the right for dates)
