This fully online training course enables participants to gain a Diploma of Work Health and Safety (WHS) at their own pace over a 12 month period. It will provide participants with the opportunity to grow their practical knowledge and skills in the development, implementation and management of WHS programs/systems through an interactive, intutive learning platform, supported by NSCA’s (National Safety Council of Australia’s) experienced trainers and assessors.

Someone who holds a Diploma in WHS will work as health and safety practitioners and will typically accept far more responsibility on the job than someone with a Cert IV or with no advanced education in WHS.

Pre-requisites

Participants must hold a Qualification/ Statement of Attainment with the 5 core units from the Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety BSB41419 or equivalent, being:
• BSBWHS412 Assist with workplace compliance with WHS laws
• BSBWHS413 Contribute to implementation and maintenance of WHS consultation and participation processes
• BSBWHS414 Contribute to WHS risk management
• BSBWHS415 Contribute to implementing WHS management systems
• BSBWHS416 Contribute to workplace incident response

All pre-requisite unit requirements are met, with evidence being provided to FSA for verification with issuing RTO

Pre-Entry Requirements

• USI
• Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course. Language Literacy and Numeracy testing to be completed on course application.
• Computer or laptop and access to internet. Appropriate business software eg: Microsoft Word and Acrobat Reader

Description

• Recognise, evaluate and manage health and safety hazards in the workplace
• Administer various work health and safety functions, planning and policy and process development in the workplace
• Communicate effectively with personnel at all levels of the organisation
• Develop actions, interventions and measures to prevent re-occurrences of incidents
• Achieve change in WHS matters
• Gather and analyse relevant WHS information and data
• Contribute to the implementation, review and improvement of the WHS plan and WHS management system

This course is constructed of 10 units of competency with each unit being delivered and assessed independently (up to 1000hrs of communicating with trainer, reading, research, assessment activities ).  All units and assessments are made available online via the student portal student portal taking up to 962 hours.  Suggested learning & assessment flow is as below:

Assessment

Self-paced Distance education gives participants the flexibility to complete the course at their own pace within the stipulated course timeframes without the need to attend face to face workshops. Courseware is provided online via the NSCA Student Portal. All assessments are to be completed on line via our Student Portal within a maximum of twelve (12) months from enrolment.

The following summative and formative assessment types are used within the Diploma of Work Health and Safety:

  • Questioning

  • Case study / scenario
  • Short activity

Delivery Method

You can start as soon as your enrolment is confirmed. The Diploma of WHS is FULLY ONLINE. This means that your course is via your desktop computer, tablet or laptop. All course resources are we-based and paper-based resources are not automatically made available; where required, these will incur an additional cost. Digital copies are not available. Please contact the FSA Education Officer for information.

FSA has instructors and customer service officers dedicated to assisting learners throughout their course and provide learners with ongoing support via phone and email.

BSB51319 Diploma in Work Health and Safety

Someone who holds a Diploma in WHS are trained to manage and guide others and will typically accept far more responsibility on the job than someone with a Cert IV or with no advanced education in WHS. Many diploma graduates work as health and safety practitioners but they may be responsible for bigger system duties that someone at a lower level will not fully understand.

Cancellation and Refund Policy for Distance Learning:

  • All cancellation requests must be received in writing.
  • 2 business day “cooling off period” applies to Distance Learning enrolments
  • Cancelled / withdrawn between 2 -5 business days – 50 percent (50%) of course fee against the unit or units commenced
  • Cancelled / withdrawn after more than 5 business days – no refund – forfeit of 100% of fees paid against the unit or units commenced.
